We invite papers from scholars working in linguistics, cultural studies, literature, psychology, philosophy, artificial intelligence, and other disciplines who wish to present their research on cognitive linguistics and related fields: cognitive poetics, cognitive psychology, cognitive anthropology, etc.

We encourage submissions presenting the most recent advances in Polish as well as international cognitive linguistics. In particular, we look forward to presentations re-evaluating the linguistic status quo, discussing the development of cognitive corpus linguistics and other empirical methodologies informed by cognitive linguistics, assessing the applications of classic (Langacker’s, Lakoff’s, Talmy’s, Goldberg’s, etc.) cognitive linguistic models, and documenting latest research into conceptual metaphor, metonymy, mental spaces, conceptual integration, first and second language acquisition (regular as well as anomalous), humor, and artificial intelligence. We also look forward to presentations exploring the cross-fertilization of structural, generative, and cognitive linguistics.    

Plenary Lectures

• Prof. Chris Sinha, Lund University (chairman of the International Cognitive Linguistics Association and editor of Language and Cognition): Where is Time? Evidence from an Amazonian language and culture.
• Prof. Ewa Dąbrowska, Northumbria University (editor-in-chief of Cognitive Linguistics): The Quest for Universal Grammar: Holy Grail or Snark.
• Prof. Elżbieta Górska, Warsaw University: Why are multimodal metaphors interesting? The perspective of verbo-visual and verbo-musical modalities.
• Prof. Małgorzata Fabiszak, Adama Mickiewicz University: Cognitive Linguistics as an empirical science.

The languages of the conference will be Polish and English.

Talks will be 20 minutes (plus 10 minutes for discussion).

Early registration and conference fee: July 15, 2012

Submission of Proposals

Please send a completed registration form, together with a 300-500 word abstract, to the following address: cognitivelinguistics2012@uni.wroc.pl.

Conference Fee

Early registration: 400 PLN or €100 (post-graduate students: 250 PLN or €60)

Registration after June 30, 2012: 500 PLN or €120 (post-graduate students: 300 PLN or €70)

The conference account number will be provided in the second call.

The conference fee includes conference materials, lunch on September 17 and 18, and the evening banquet on September 17. The conference fee does not include travel and accommodation costs. The hotels situated in the vicinity of the University of Wrocław are listed below.
